Word Families- Teacher Website

Hello again everyone. Today's website it helpful for teachers who are teaching primary grades. It lists all the possible "word families"; once you click on a word family, it then lists a whole bunch of words that are formed with that family. You can print these out, laminate them and paste them on a word wall, or give the kids these words to sort, learn with, or read as sight words. This takes a lot of the work out of creating word families. It's as simple as click, print, and teach! Happy reading :)

Website- Letter Formation Poems

Here is a great website that I came accross to help students memorize how to write the letters. It has one-liner poems for each letter and describes what you should be doing with the pencil in order to write the letter correctly. Thought this would be great when teaching K and 1st grade.

Thematic Units-Teacher Website #4

This weeks website is two for the price of one! Actually, they are both free :) The first site is for grades K-2nd, and the second is for grades 3-5. The sites basically list unit plans that were made from other teachers to fit the standards and these grade levels. The part I like best about it is that many of these units include technology! Plus, they are thematic, which means the can be spread across the subject areas and meet multiple standards all under one common theme. Kids (and people in general) learn best when they can connect one idea to another that was previously learned, so using thematic units is a great way to help students make connections. Happy unit planning :)

Sing Songs!- Teacher Website #2

Hello again everyone! This week's recommended website for teachers is http://www.mrsjonesroom.com/songs/alphlist.html. A fellow teacher friend recommended this website to me, and it is most helpful for Kindergarten/1st grade teachers (MAYBE 2nd grade) and especially teachers who aren't afraid to belt it out in the classroom! It provides songs to nearly every single phonetic letter sound in the book, as well as consonant digraph songs and short and long vowel songs. The songs are set to familiar tunes like "Mary Had a Little Lamb" or "Skip to my Lu" etc. It even provides a section on "How music promotes learning," in case anyone asks you why you and your kids are always singing so much!I can see kids really getting into this and using it to help them remember how to spell and sound out letters and words. Happy singing :)

As I have gone through my degree in Child Develoment, my teaching credential, and now this technology masters program...I have come across some great teacher friendly websites that have been very helpful. So these blogs from now on will share some of these websites that I think anyone interested in helping or teaching children may be interested in. This weeks website is: http://puzzlemaker.discoveryeducation.com/ . This website is awesome for creating your own custom word searches, criss-cross, double puzzles, fallen phrases, math squares, mazes, letter tiles, cyptograms, number blocks, and hidden messages. It's so easy you can even have the kids go on this website to make their own! Perfect for time fillers and vocabulary words.
